ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Oct. 10, 2008) –  Now is the time to get immunized against the flu, and the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health is offering the vaccine free for children while supplies last.

The department is offering FluMist, an intranasal spray suitable for healthy children age 2 to 18. FluMist is not suitable for children younger than 2 or children with underlying medical conditions, such as asthma. The department is still awaiting the traditional flu shot for children and teens and expects to be able to offer it within the next few weeks.

The health department’s Immunization Clinic is on the fifth floor of the City-County Building, 1 E. Main St. The clinic’s hours are Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary but parents are asked to bring their child’s shot record.

Besides the health department’s Immunization Clinic, FluMist is also available at all Super Shot clinic locations. For a list of locations and their hours of operation, call
