Do You Have Unwanted Mercury In Your Home?

The Allen County Solid Waste Management District and the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health have teamed up to provide area drop-off locations for disposal of residential mercury devices, such as: thermometers and thermostats with mercury in them.

These locations are:

  • The Allen County Solid Waste Management District’s office at 1 W Superior St, Room B12. Fort Wayne, IN 46802. Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm.

  • The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health at 1 E Main St., 5th Floor. Fort Wayne, IN 46802. Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

  • The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health Medical Annex at 4812 New Haven Ave. Fort Wayne, IN 46803. Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Mercury is a hazardous substance that can have acute or chronic health effects, and should be disposed of properly. To determine if a thermometer has mercury in it, check to see if the liquid inside is a metallic-silver color. If it is that color, then that thermometer should be disposed of properly at one of the area drop-off locations.

Please make sure to put all mercury containing devices in plastic Ziploc bags before depositing them into the collection containers.

For more information please contact the Allen County Solid Waste Management District at 449-7878 or visit us at www.acwasterwatcher.org.  Small businesses and non-profits interested in participating must contact the District.
