FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Feb. 1, 2012). – People seeking birth and death certificates in Allen County will now be able to pay for those documents by credit or debit card.

The Vital Records office of the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health is working with GovPay to make this from of payment available. All major credit cards, including Visa®, MasterCard®, Discover® and American Express®, will be accepted.

“With this new option, customers will now have three payment options: to pay by a credit card, as well as by cash or money order,” says Sarah Castillo, director of Vital Records. “This is just another way we are trying to make our services as convenient as possible.”

Copies of birth and death certificates for events occurring in Allen County are available to walk-in customers, by mail, or using an online service called VitalChek.

The cost of a birth certificate is $10 and a death certificates is $12.  GovPay will charge a processing for credit card payments based on the amount of the transaction, but the minimum fee someone would pay is $1.50.

The Vital Records office is located on the third floor of Citizens Square, 200 E. Berry St. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
